Times New Roman:
This font is mostly preferred and the safest style everyone used. Times New Roman is basically the safest option as it is simple and has a subtle writing style that do not irritate the eyes.
Moreover, if you compare the format of Time New Roman with other font styles you will notice a complete difference in text size and readability factor.

I choose three less preferred font style with Time New Roman you might notice their differences. Time New Roman has alignment equal as each word is structured line vise with no ups and down of letters.
On the other hand, Arial font is bigger and stand out from other font styles. As well as you might notice it has filled the whole table with its words.
I do not prefer Arial Narrow as the talking about dissertation the writing style is formal and this look more casual and font size is smaller than all other font style.
Lastly, some font is called non-lining numeral such as Georgia. This means the alphabet or letter do not settle on the base line. As seen above you might think this is probably okay to use font. But when you add this on the tabular you will get your answer.
